Robin Uthappa was not retained by Chennai Super Kings after the end of IPL 2021 as the franchise opted to keep Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Though he was not retained, Uthappa rejoined the franchise as he was bought for his base price of Rs 2 crore in the mega auction ahead of IPL 2022. While talking to Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube channel, the wicketkeeper-batsman threw light on the first. He interacted with Dhoni when he joined CSK from Rajasthan Royals in 2021. He said that the former India captain told him that he would get a chance to play for the team but it would require him to work hard.

“When I came here, I was told – ‘When you get a chance, you will definitely get 4 or 5 games. But you have to wait for your chance.’ Clarity and communication are very important to me. So for me, what I loved about that first conversation with MS was that he said to me, ‘As of now, you don’t go into my playing XI. We two It’s months away from the IPL. We’ll see where it goes in the next few months. Because I’m not thinking about it at the moment.”

“Then when I came here they said to me, ‘Listen, you’re in the top 12 or 13. But you might not get the first game. You might have to wait your turn.’ I said, ‘Quite right, that’s communication'”, he said.

In the current season, Uthappa has scored 106 runs in four matches for CSK and in IPL 2021 he has scored 115 runs in four matches. Despite appearing in only four matches, Uthappa played a major role for CSK in the final vs KKR. In their upcoming match, CSK will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Tuesday.
