Mainpuri: A woman was arrested yesterday in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri for possessing a country-made pistol.
Officials said the accused has been identified as Karishma Singh Yadav, who is working as a teacher in a school in Firozabad. “She was in Mainpuri yesterday because of some work,” he said.
A senior police officer said that they had received information about a woman walking with a weapon in the Kotwali area of the city. “We then traced and confronted the woman,” he said.
A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows a woman constable searching her and taking out a 315 bore country-made pistol from her blue jeans pocket.
Police said Ms Yadav was immediately taken into custody and a case has been registered against her under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Mainpuri Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar said officers were questioning her as to why she was carrying the weapon.
