IPL 2022: MS Dhoni conspired to sack Virat Kohli, Twitter

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings won their first match of IPL 2022 by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 23 runs on Tuesday. CSK posted a mammoth 216/4 on the board and RCB needed their star batsmen, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli, to score a big total and lay the foundation for the chase. But it did not happen as skipper du Plessis was sent back in the third over itself.

It brought Virat Kohli in the middle and former CSK captain MS Dhoni, who has been assisting new skipper Ravindra Jadeja with field placements from time to time, swung into action. Dhoni has played very closely with Kohli for over a decade now and knows how the batsman reacts to certain deliveries.

Keeping this in mind, Dhoni placed a fielder at deep square leg to attempt a pull shot, which Virat often deploys against short deliveries. As it turned out, Kohli played a pull shot off the first ball of the fifth over bowled by Mukesh Chaudhary and duly caught by Shivam Dube at deep mid-wicket. The loss of two quick wickets left RCB stunned and they never found a way to chase down the target, although the middle order did well to get the team closer to the target and saved the net run rate.
