Capturing the consistently outstanding New Zealand team captain is no daunting task for Latham, who has a clear idea for the Kiwis squad for the upcoming Bangladesh Test series.
“Just continue what this group has been doing for a long time. We have had good success in our circumstances, but in recent years have been far from over. I am trying to continue what this group is doing and my Things are like spin, it’s not like it’s going to change much in Test cricket,” Latham said in a statement.
“We have a pretty good blueprint in New Zealand. For me, it’s about how I can assist in situations and be one step ahead of the game rather than reacting in front of us. I’ve always had the opportunity to lead.” “Group. We have a lot of good leaders in this group as well as a lot of experience. I look forward to the series to come,” he said.
Latham also hinted at what the New Zealand line-up will look like ahead of the first Test against Bangladesh, where he will be the opener.
“We will decide on the all-rounder’s place tomorrow. Everyone is training really well today and you will see the results tomorrow morning,” Latham said.
“We will have five batsmen in front of us and four fast bowlers have done well for us in these conditions for a long time. They are expected to come back in these conditions,” he said.
The captain elaborated on the open all-rounder slot, asking whether it was a decision depending on what the pitch looked like on Test morning.
“I think traditionally, we have seen that the pitch has been a bit dry and the weather also plays its part. The weather looks great in the days to come. It is too much. We have seen here in the past that we have a Spinning all-rounders have been used, but the wicket looks a bit different as compared to recent matches, so we will take that decision in the morning.”
The Test series between New Zealand and Bangladesh will be the first live cricket offering to be streamed on Amazon Prime Video. The first match is to be played from January 1-5 at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, Tauranga.
The second and final Test match will be played on January 9 at Hagley Oval, Christchurch and will conclude on January 13.
