Three-member panel to submit report on Vaishno Devi stampede

Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha meets a man injured in Vaishno Devi stampede in Jammu

Jammu: According to an official order issued on Saturday, a three-member panel set up to probe the stampede at the famous Vaishno Devi temple has been asked to submit its report to the Jammu and Kashmir government within a week.

The committee, headed by Principal Secretary (Home), was constituted by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in the early hours of Saturday after a stampede at a temple on Trikuta hills in Reasi district, in which 12 pilgrims were killed and over a dozen were injured.

In an order issued by the Jammu and Kashmir government this evening, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Principal Secretary, General Administration Department, said that a high-level panel has been constituted to find out the reasons for the tragic incident.

The other two members of the committee are Jammu Divisional Commissioner Raghav Langar and Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Mukesh Singh.

“The committee shall examine in detail the causes/reasons of the incident (stampede) and point out lapses and fix responsibility for the same,” the order said.

It said the committee would submit its report to the government within a week and also suggest appropriate standard operating procedures and measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
