8,082 new covid cases in Mumbai, 90% of them

Mumbai is one of the major cities where Omicron is believed to have inspired the boom.

Mumbai: Ninety-nine per cent (8,086) of Mumbai’s fresh coronavirus cases are asymptomatic, with official data showing that 574 patients have been hospitalized in the last 24 hours.

Today’s increase is modest compared to yesterday (8,063), but the number of hospitalizations has increased to 12 percent compared to 10 percent yesterday.

The boom in the city is believed to have been driven by the new Omicron variant – which, the report says, is more contagious, but causes milder symptoms.

Out of 574 hospitalized patients, 71 are on oxygen support. Maharashtra minister Aaditya Thackeray said on Sunday that information on hospitalization and asymptomatic cases is now being included in the daily health bulletin to reduce panic.

The city’s civic body chief Iqbal Singh Chahal told NDTV today that a lockdown would be announced if the daily cases cross the 20,000-mark. Referring to a high-level meeting last week, he said, “We discussed the lockdown with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. We believe that up to 20,000 cases a day, we will be comfortable with our hospitalization and oxygen supply.” Will be comfortable in need.” cases surge.
