Agartala: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new Integrated Terminal Building of Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala today.

Tripura will have the first integrated terminal building of MBB showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the state.

According to the Airports Authority of India, the airport terminal has been built at a cost of around Rs 450 crore and is expected to be able to handle around four to five times more passengers than the existing one – which can reportedly handle only 500 passengers. could. one time.

The new airport terminal building in Tripura comes as part of the Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) initiative to develop modern, state-of-the-art airports in the North-East to contribute to the overall development of the region.

Tripura’s new airport terminal includes 20 check-in counters, 10 immigration counters, aprons for six aircraft parking bays, five customs counters, a four-passenger boarding bridge and a hangar. In line with Cochin International Airport, the terminal building of the airport in Tripura will also include a solar power unit capable of meeting most of its power requirements.

Spread over 30,000 square metres, the new state-of-the-art terminal building is equipped with modern facilities and supported by the latest Information Technology (IT) network-integrated system.
