NEET-PG Admission: Supreme Court agrees to hear petition related to Economically Weaker Section quota.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear a petition related to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota with regard to NEET-PG admissions after the Center sought an urgent hearing in the matter.

A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and Hema Kohli took note of the submissions of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing in the court on behalf of the Centre, that the matter pertains to admissions for post-graduate medical. Curriculum and students are facing difficulties.

“If it is a matter of a three-judge bench, it will be listed before the three-judge bench tomorrow,” the CJI said.

A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud on Monday told the Center that a bench of necessary strength can be constituted by the CJI as the EWS quota matter is being heard by a three-judge bench.

There have been massive protests by resident doctors of various hospitals under the banner of Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) in Delhi and other parts of the country over the delay in NEET-PG counseling which has been postponed. Center to take a decision on revisiting the criteria for fixation of EWS quota.
