Exactly 12 months ago, Shardul Thakur spent 1.5 hours bowling his heart out in the SCG nets, even engaging in a bouncer fight against Rohit Sharma, with hopes of a Test recall that was not to happen. A year later, he is a cult hero and an intergalactic member of the Test team. #SAvIND

India were initially bowled out for 202 on the first day and also suffered a top-order collapse.
Responding to India’s first innings total, the Proteas made a cautious start in the final session on the first day before losing to Aiden Markram.
On the second day, half-centuries from Pietersen and Bavuma propelled the hosts, but a surprising spell from Shardul put India back in the game.
With both the teams leaving for the tea session, the hosts will aim to cut the deficit in Johannesburg.
