Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has denied reports of a power struggle with Cristiano Ronaldo as the club battle to finish the season in the top four of the Premier League. Maguire has been well below his best this season and it has been reported that United feel vulnerable to Ronaldo’s influence, with his continued role as captain being questioned. United forward Marcus Rashford dismissed talk of a dressing room split involving Ronaldo earlier this week, and Maguire denied the latest reports. “I have seen a lot of reports about this club that are not true and this is another,” he posted on Twitter on Friday ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match in Leeds.

“Not going to start posting about what’s written, but I need to clarify this. We are united and focused on Sunday. Enjoy your day.”

United’s 2-0 win against Brighton on Tuesday saw them again move to fourth place in the English top-flight – the top four teams qualify for next season’s Champions League.

But the club, under interim manager Ralph Rangnick, faces an uphill battle, with several other sides also in the mix, most of whom have games in hand.
