India batsman Virat Kohli was in fine form in the second T20I against West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday. After failing to score runs in three ODIs and the first T20I, Kohli scored 52 off 41 balls to lay the foundation for India’s series-winning victory. With his knock against West Indies on Friday, Kohli equaled India captain Rohit Sharma’s record for most 50+ scores in T20Is. Both Kohli and Rohit are now tied at 30, but the former has played just 97 matches compared to the latter, who has played 121 matches in the shortest format of the game.

Also, it was Kohli’s sixth fifty in the format against West Indies.

The 33-year-old, however, fell short of 4 runs as the highest run-scorer in T20Is, leaving behind New Zealand’s Martin Guptill.

With 3,299 runs, Guptill is ahead of Kohli, who has 3,296 runs to his name. Meanwhile, Rohit is third on the list with 3,256 runs in the format.

Having already whitewashed West Indies in the ODI series, India would now like to do the same in the ongoing T20I series.

The third and final T20 match will be played at the Eden Gardens on Friday.

After the conclusion of the ongoing series, India will host Sri Lanka for three T20Is, followed by two Tests.

The first T20I will be played in Lucknow on February 24 while the Test series will begin on March 4.
