Analysis: 'Bel-Air' gives us a new Will Smith, thank you

And I want to take a minute to write here, and tell you how we ended up with a reboot called “Bel-Air.”

No, the lyrics don’t match exactly, but I never claimed to be a rapper like Will Smith, who wrote the original song (with his musical partner and BFF DJ Jazzy Jeff) to the theme song of his 1990s hit NBC sitcom It was written, “The New Prince of Bel-Air.”

Thanks to Smith, we now have a theatrical reboot of that show, which leads this week’s newsletter.

‘Bel Air’

A 2019 viral video by filmmaker Morgan Cooper reimagining “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” as a modern-day drama caught the attention of the Fresh Prince himself, and with the support of Will Smith, it’s now There is a streaming series on Peacock.

It’s been eagerly awaited since Smith announced it in 2020, and the whole thing feels like a fairy tale, based on the comedy about an inner-city teen from Philadelphia with rich loos. Was transplanted to live the good life in the neighborhood of Angeles.

“Bel-Air” is decidedly darker, and having a new “Will” (played by Jabari Banks) takes some getting used to who likes the original.

The Miz is back!

Our favorite comedian of the 1950s (Rachel Brosnahan) was at a career high when drama broke out at the end of last season.

Season four is set in 1960, which begs the question: What will a new decade bring for the character whose life completely changed when she set out to chase her dreams?

And let’s not forget about her fast-paced manager, Susie Myerson (Alex Borstein).

There’s a reason both Brosnahan and Borstein have won awards for their performances on this show.

This has been a struggle for Kanye West fans for a long time.

Now, a trilogy documentary will offer something of both.

“Jean-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” documents his career from the beginning.

West, who now goes by “Ye”, began as a producer before becoming a famous rapper, fashion mogul, and eventually a lightning rod for controversy.

Her personal life these days is garnering as much attention as her career, but for those who are interested in her journey, there is a lot of material here.

The first episode of “Jean-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” arrives on Netflix on Wednesday, with the following two releasing on the next two Wednesdays.

Country artist Joe Nichols has released his 10th studio album and first full-length project in four years.

“Good Day for Living” features 13 tracks from Nichols’ classic country tunes, including “I Got Friends That Do” featuring fellow country artist and “The Voice” coach Blake Shelton.

The new album is out now, and the tour began last week in Jackson, Mississippi.

And McCrory still loves what he does.

“I’m just as excited to hear new music today as I started with — a new tune or a story that tickles me,” he told Glide magazine. “This album is the best I’ve heard when the world stopped.”

James Gandolfini watching her drive as his TV dad, Tony Soprano, and then meeting up with Robert Iller, who played his on-screen brother, AJ Soprano, made me feel.

All I’m saying is that the reboot is made on low.

Speaking of Super Bowl Sunday, it was not without controversy.

That’s because many celebrities were seen not wearing masks, despite masks being mandatory for “mega events” held in Los Angeles County, Sophie Stadium and the location of Super Bowl LVI.

Granted, out of the more than 70,000 attendees at the game, not many were seen wearing masks at the outdoor venue.

But for celebs, some of whom have advised people to wear masks in public, a high profile means a higher level of responsibility.
